Amazing Grace

I have just got back from watching the new film 'Amazing Grace' about the abolition of the slave trade throughout the former British empire. I sobbed for much of the film, knowing what happened and the passion of the ones who fought to abolish the slave trade. But I cried even more knowing that the slave trade was still going on today!

Every day people are bought and sold accross the world to work as slaves in the sex trade, in production of products and in food growth. I was really challenged by the film, and am asking my self "what can I do?". I'm not a member of parliament or a person with status... but I can make a difference! I can support the abolition of slavery, I can campaign and can buy the right things I can let others know and I can pray!

How often do we turn a blind eye to what is going on, or buy the cheeper product? I know I do, when I can get three mangos for a quid instead of the fairtrade mango. I haven't lobbied my guts out to raise awareness of human trafficking. But why? because I can't be bothered, have other things to do, want more money for my self and overall I'm selfish. But if the radicals who abolished slavery had those attitudes I sometimes feel, there would be millions of Black people in slavery all around the world today still!

I want a change of heart daily, to stand up for what I know is right. By making noise about human trafficking, lobbying for change and buying Fairtrade wherever possible.

You can join me in this wanting to change and start to make a huge impact on millions of lives and abolish slavery again and for good!

Please visit this site, and lobby, and shout from rooftops, pray, do everything in your power to abolish the slave trade today!
