Don’t worry there is no boiled galangal in here, we’re just going to borrow some of the other main ingredients to make a hot and sour coconutty concoction!

Ingredients

1/2 can Creamed Coconut

1/2 can Coconut Water

1 Fairtrade Lime

1 Fairtrade Banana

Cinnamon powder to taste

Chilli powder to taste

Instructions

Add coconut products to smoothie maker along with the banana.

Squeeze the lime juice into the smoothie maker (watch out for the pips).

SMOOTH!!!

Add chilli and cinnamon to taste (take it easy at first)

SMOOTH!!!

Pour into a short glass

Add decorative chilli or cinnamon – or why not shave some lemongrass onto the top?

This smoothie is a good compliment to a desert after a Thai meal or to go with anything spicy as it will cool your taste buds despite the chilli!

Over 18?

Try adding some Fairtrade Spiced Rum

1 Fairtrade Vanilla Pod

3 Fairtrade Bananas

2 or 3 handfuls of ice

2 pots of Fairtrade greek style yoghurt, from co-op

4 teaspoons of fairtrade sugar dissolved in a small amount of water

Slit vanilla pod lengthways and scrape out seeds, add bananas to smoothie maker follwed by yoghurt, sugar/water, vanilla seeds and then the ice. This is far better than any milkshke made with vanilla extract or essence etc. Fairtrade bananas and vanilla pods are top quality.

To make this delicious fruit smoothie you will need…

300ml tropical juice

3 small or 2 large fairtrade bananas

1 tablespoon of fairtrade honey

6 ice cubes

Note: All these ingredients are available as fairtrade so please make sure you use fairtrade products and make a difference!

Put the ingredients in your smoothie maker and make it whizz. It shouldn’t take long to make this one because there isn’t much ice. When the ice stops crackling turn it off and pour out. It should have fairly thick smoothie consistency.

Classic is made of orange and banana – classic music, classic art, classic cars and of course the classic smoothie!

To make your orange and banana smoothie you will need :

1 large banana

2 large oranges

7 ice cubes

small amount of water (if required)

Break the banana up into small pieces and put into the smoothie maker. Squeeze the oranges until they are soft and then peel and squeeze out the orange, including juice. Put the ice cubes in. Then turn the smoothie maker on, you will hear the ice crackling, when you can’t hear it any more it means the smoothie is almost ready (usually after 30-45 seconds). Stop the smoothie maker, then check the smoothie, if it is too thick you may want to add some water and smooth for a bit longer otherwise you are ready to drink.

Pour out the smoothie into a glass and enjoy!

This smoothie is officially tastier than the top pre-made smoothies as tested in Episode 8 of our podcast series from back in the day (ahh the memories).

Make it yourself by using:

1 large banana

3 handfuls strawberries

1 handful of grapes

1/2 cup of apple juice (or an apple and some water)

1 Handful of icecubes

Prepare fruits as normal. Mix until you reach smoothie consistency

Experiment, be creative, change the quantities around or even add new ingredients to find your favourite strawberry and banana smoothie.
